Health & Safety Today

The American Red Cross has provided health and safety services to the American public for nearly a century. From first aid, CPR, blood borne pathogens training to baby-sitting courses to swimming and lifeguarding, American Red Cross preparedness programs help people lead safer and healthier lives. Today's innovation programs also include teaching laypersons and professionals how to use automated external defibrillators (AED) to save victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Last year, over 4,000 people were trained in the Watauga County Chapter's jurisdiction of Watauga and Avery Counties. Due to grants we have received, we have funds available to help with the cost of training for certain individuals. These funds are limited and only available to certain populations. Who may apply? Residents of Watauga or Avery County aged 11-15 interested in attending the Babysitter's Boot Camp.

You can help us save lives in two different ways. First take a health and safety course. Second, become a health and safety instructor. Call Lynn at 829.264.8226 for current class schedule or check out the [Calendar].

Together, we can save a life.

Learn How toSave a Life and Earn CEUs

Many Red Cross course takers - such as nurses, social workers, recreation professionals, teachers and day care providers - are professionals who need continuing education units (CEUs) to maintain a license and/or certification.   In order to provide this added service to our customers, the American Red Cross has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET).   CEUs are offered as an add-on to training courses completed through the American Red Cross.

Obtain Red Cross CEUs online at www.redcrossstore.org.   Visit www.iacet.org to review a list of companies, regulatory boards and organizations that accept the IACET CEU.   Individuals are strongly encouraged to check with their specific regulatory boards, employers or other agencies to confirm that courses taken for IACET CEUs will be accepted by that entity.

Attention Businesses

We offer American Red Cross training on site, or you can send select employees to attend "train-the-trainer" courses, preparing them to provide first aid and CPR/AED training to other staff members.   Red Cross workplace safety training is the complete emergency preparedness solution that's smart for your employees and your bottom line.   In fact, studies cited by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) show a $4 to $6 return for every dollar invested in health and safety training, with improvements in the costs associated with absenteeism, Workers' compensation claims and productivity.   With comprehensive, flexible programs, Red Cross training helps employees stay prepared for virtually any life-threatening situation and meets OSHA First Aid Guidelines.
